International Drivers License |
Car Rental and Your Driver’s LicenseDavid Glendinning One thing that you may overlook when you want to rent a car is whether the rental company will accept your driver's license.
This is especially true when you are travelling to a foreign country. After all, there is no point in renting a car when you are not allowed to drive it! So be sure that you have a license that the rental company will accept. The nationality of accepted driver's licenses and the minimum age for rental can vary from country to country and company to company, so be sure that your license is up to the standards of the company and the law. International Drivers Licenses If you are traveling in some countries, you will need to pick up an international drivers license to pick up your car. However, Australia, New Zealand, countries in North America, and Western European nations will usually accept each other's drivers licenses. In most any country that speaks the same tongue as your country, you should be fine with your regular drivers license. However, in countries where the car rental agent cannot read or understand your license, you should expect that you will need an international drivers license to pick up your car. Call the rental office where you will be picking up your car and ask them if they will accept your drivers license or if you will need an international license. Here is an important tip. International Drivers License’s can only be provided from your country of origin so plan ahead and don’t expect to be able to get one while you are in another country.
