Rental Cars and Visible Markings |
Be Concerned About Rental Cars and Visible MarkingsDavid Glendinning There are certain things you want to avoid when renting a car relating to safeguarding your personal possessions. When operating my own car rental business I was amazed at the seemingly high number of times customers had their personal possessions stolen from their rental vehicles. When I started to investigate this a bit I found that the main reason was that rental cars stuck out like beacons when parked with other vehicles. You see, most car rental vehicles have distinctive markings placed on them from the car rental company. It could be a window sticker advertising the car rental company, or markings on the doors or registration plates. Now to someone who was targeting vehicles to break into, what do you think would just about guarantee the vehicle had something valuable inside worth stealing. You guessed it, a rental car that has visible signage saying, "TOURIST!" To any potential thieves, this means that there may be luggage in the back, which means possible valuables, which means "Please break into me!" in their language. Also, if you will be travelling in, around, and through cities, you do not want to find yourself driving through the rough section of town with a rental sticker on your car. Though it is likely that nothing will happen, if something does, it won't be fun for you. So keep your car clean and yourself safe by making sure that your rental car is pleasantly inconspicuous and limit the valuables you may leave inside. With a little forethought and a few phone calls and questions, you can ensure that your car rental company is everything that you need it to be. So take the time to be sure that you are going with the company that will not only provide you with a great rate, but will give you the service you need while you are travelling.
